I’ve been following the folk scene closely for years now, and Ervin Munir has become one of those artists I genuinely look forward to hearing from. His new single “I Don’t Care” dropped September 19th, and it’s everything I hoped it would be as we wait for his third album.

Right from the first listen, this one stuck with me. The melody is absolutely infectious, the kind that lingers long after the song ends. Ervin’s voice has this warmth that feels like catching up with an old friend, and it pairs beautifully with the acoustic guitar work throughout. The piano adds these heartfelt touches that really pull at you, while the drums keep everything moving at this perfect, foot tapping pace.

What Ervin does so well here is balance a message about independence and choosing your own path without it feeling preachy. “This is a song about not conforming to societal norms despite the pressures,” he told me. “It’s about making your own mind up and really choosing what to do.” That sentiment comes through clearly, especially in the chorus where the harmonies create this inviting space that makes you want to sing along.

The guitar solo deserves special mention. It’s positioned perfectly within the track and showcases the thoughtful arrangement that went into this recording. Producer Aeron Z Jones has done excellent work here, giving the song a polished quality while keeping that intimate, personal feel that makes folk music so compelling. He clearly understands Ervin’s style and knows how to enhance it without overproducing.

As someone who listens to a lot of folk music, I can say Ervin has carved out his own space in the genre. There’s something distinctive about his approach that sets him apart from others working in this territory. “I Don’t Care” works both as a standalone piece and as a promising glimpse of what’s coming on the full album. If this is the direction he’s heading, I’m excited to hear what else he’s been working on.
